I have experience programming several different types of HMI's. I started with Allen Bradley's Panelviews. Then I moved on to Wonderware. Parker also makes a nice unit that programs with their Interact software. Finally, I came full circle with Rockwell's CE's, Versaview's, RSView, and then their Factory View.
I stopped recommending Wonderware when they started licensing their packages so that they would no longer function after the license expired. Rockwell also licenses their software; but, when the license expires, the software continues to function. Rockwell's license renewal primarily applies to updates and upgrades of their software package and their support functions.
The new Parker CTC screens have a unique feature. The programming software is contained in the actual unit and can be accessed with a browser. This saves money on purchasing software. It also allows programming from multiple platforms.
One thing about this field, you never stop learning and adapting. Communications during the last twenty to thirty years have gone from 300 bits per second up to 100 Megabit per second. I can remember writing programs for computers that had only 64K of RAM. Now Ram is measured in Gigabites. The units have changed from thousands to billions.
